I am very excited to begin offering a new small-group modality that involves stretch, mindful breathing and massage. It’s called Yomassage®!
To give you an idea what to expect from a Yomassage session, imagine this:
While you are lying on a thick yoga mat in a comfortable restorative stretch, I will guide you to breathe mindfully using a themed meditation that takes you deep into the relaxation experience. Then, while you are relaxing and focusing on your breath, I will provide therapeutic massage in each of the positions you are in.
The positions we use in Yomassage are inspired by “Restorative Stretch.” In restorative stretch, you relax into gentle stretches supported by props that allow you to slowly lengthen muscles and get into the deep connective tissue over 8-10 minutes. Gentle stretching has been shown to increases dopamine (the body’s happiness hormone) while decreasing cortisol (the body’s stress response).
The restorative positions we use in Yomassage are accessible to everyone who can get up and down off of the mat. You don’t need to be “flexible” at all or have any prior yoga experience!
Yomassage® sessions are about 75 minutes long with a maximum of five participants. During our time together, you will be guided into a variety of comfortable, restorative positions. By holding these simple, relaxing poses for a short period of 8-10 minutes - while breathing mindfully and receiving therapeutic touch - your body and mind will reap many fabulous benefits.
These benefits include:
* Stretching and strengthening of back, core, and most every muscle in the body
* Positional release of tight muscles throughout the body
* Regulation of nervous system to reduce stress and anxiety
* Improves posture, breathing, digestion, circulation and sleep
* Accesses and releases superficial and deep connective tissues
* Activates a wide variety of sensory receptors throughout the body
* Empowers participants to maintain mindfulness during and after the session
* Several of the positions are particularly beneficial for sciatica, back pain and neck pain
* Creates space for long, steady breathings by opening up the chest
Please let me know if you’re interested, and we will start putting these classes together!
